Title: Beijing - A Sanctuary
Artist Statement: Beijing is a city that is full of historical monuments and unique species of animals that link to the city and the country’s rich culture. My theme is “City Inspiration: Beauty - The Scenery of Hometown” so I incorporated Giant Panda’s as the Beijing Zoo is one of the oldest and largest zoos in China, home to eight Giant Panda’s and Beijing’s biggest panda sanctuary. In the background, the Summer Palace is featured for its historical importance. It used to be the royal retreat for emperors fleeing the suffocating summer torpor of the old imperial city and, most recently, it was the retirement playground of Empress Dowager Cixi.
