    Reflections

    Experience

My experience for the duration of this module has been a positive one. I feel like I have learned a lot and added to my skill set in terms of understanding typeface and designing a font with meaning and purpose. Moreover, as a result of this module I have been able to take the chance to explore the script of my native language thaana, and learn a lot about how the design process, guidelines, and characters differ from the English Latin characters that I am used to. I will most certainly be editing and refining the thaana font I designed as I do not believe it is completely satisfactory.

    Observations

One main thing I observed during this semester is that it is a lot harder than it seems to pick a good colour palette/scheme. For Task 1, we were allowed to use one colour other than black and white for our work and even then I was very indecisive as I wished to pick a colour that both contrasted and complimented when used with black and white. This was more relevant in Task 2 when we did have to make or choose a colour palette for our collateral.

    Findings

I found that in regards to typography and type exploration of thaana, there are many people who have created fonts for text and headlines but while those fonts exist there is very little reported on the process and guidelines of how to actually do it. I believe this is because type exploration of thaana is still relatively new while compared to English, which has many books written and many video presentations and tutorials teaching others of the important things to remember when creating a font for it.
